The origin of the tiered wedding cake lies in Anglo-Saxon times when guests would bring small cakes to a wedding and stack them one on top of another. A French baker later created a single cake that mimicked the shape of these many small cakes and covered it in frosting – and voila the traditional tiered wedding cake was born.
